A “marathon” 3.5 invitational swim was first run in 1995 by then Captain Erik Mather with support from President Martin McRobert In 1998 the 2,4,6 km invitational open water swim was established and in 2011 it was decided to dedicate all funds raised by the swim to the Melanoma Institute Australia. In 2012 the swim was renamed in the memory of Erik Mather who died from melanoma on 26 September 2011. He was 45 years old.
We are also very pleased to continue supporting the Melanoma Institute Australia with the Erik Mather PhD Scholarship for melanoma research. All donations raised by the event will directly fund the Erik Mather PhD Scholarship program..
Any life lost to melanoma is one too many.
This year we plan to raise $25,000
The Balmoral Beach Club Events commemorates the life of Erik Mather with the 2,4,6 km swim for Melanoma.

The 2,4,6 km invitational open water swim established by Erik Mather in 1998, was renamed in 2013 by the Balmoral Beach Club in Erik's memory.
Balmoral Beach Club members and member’s guests participating in the race are encouraged to make a donation, in lieu of an entry fee, in support of the Melanoma Institute of Australia to aid the ongoing research for a cure for Melanoma.
Every contribution will help reach our target. All donations are received by the Melanoma Institute Australia.
